“Have you ever had a dream, Neo, that you were so sure was real? What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?” (Morpheus, The Matrix) It’s our thoughts and actions which actually create the world as we perceive it …
Ever had one of those days when you oversleep, the toothpaste’s run out, you trip down the stairs, kick the dog, spill your coffee and then discover that you’ve flatlined your petrol gauge and your car won’t start? Arrrgh – everything’s gone wrong and you think to yourself “This always happens to me!“. Your day seems to continue in that same vein and everything that you see, hear and experience is just a stack of negativity, everyone seems to have some kind of personal mission to cause you to have the day from hell and you wish you’d just stayed under the duvet instead. Recognise the picture?
And then you’ve had days where you wake up slowly to the sound of birdsong as the sun gently begins to give a warm glow to your bedroom, you look at the clock and smile to yourself as you realise you have another 20 minutes of lazy snooze time. You get up and relax into your first coffee to kick start the day, perhaps singing along to Planet Rock or Radio 2 and get a warm, happy feeling as a tune floats into your awareness and brings to mind a great memory. Maybe you take the hound for a wander instead of kicking him and as you take a last look in the mirror before you exit the house to get off to work, you smile at yourself and say “I rock. Today’s going to be awesome!” And it is.
Now here’s the thing. The events occurring during your day could be exactly the same on each of those days, however your mindset conditions you to perceive either the positive or the negative within a situation because that’s what you’re putting out there. You create the world around you. The world as we experience it is made up of particles that are responsive to our thoughts, sounds and images. So you see, you cannot afford the luxury of a negative mindset, or negative thinking – because it’s just negative stuff that you’ll get back. When you begin to focus on the positive – to really imagine, see, hear and feel the things that you want to bring into your life, only then will you begin to create the world that you actually desire.
Some call this the Law of Attraction – and that’s a very real concept; we attract to us that which we put out there. Wiki says:
“The law of attraction is a metaphysical belief or theory, that “like attracts like,” and that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results. According to the Law of Attraction, the phrase “I need more money” or “I don’t have enough money” allows the subject to continue to “need more money” or “not have enough money”. If the subject wants to change this they would focus their thoughts on the goal (having more money) rather than the problem (needing more money). This might take the form of phrases such as “I have more money now” or “I have more money than I need.”
Starting to grasp what I’m saying?
The Law of Attraction in itself is a deep and vast subject which we’ll explore further in future blog posts. However just for now, why not begin to think seriously about what you have and what you want to attract into your life and get into the habit of changing your thoughts and the energy that you put out there to actually manifest those things? Napolean Hill coined a great phrase when he said “What the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve“. And he’s right; so become aware of what you’re thinking and putting out there and remember – thoughts become things; start creating your reality as you want it – now!
