NLP Parts Integration

Ever needed to make a decision and found yourself thinking ”Part of me wants this, part of me wants that”? Or perhaps you encounter challenges in life and feel that part of you can, part of you can’t? Maybe part of you feels worthy or good enough to achieve all you want in life, yet part of you doesn’t …

leave inner conflict in the past with parts integration

You know the stuff I’m talking about; those “Daddy or Chips?” moments. One part of you really wants a committed relationship, the other part of you wants to stay with yourself. Perhaps one part of you wants to stay in your job, yet another part of you really wants to take the plunge and work for yourself. Maybe you’re experiencing inner conflict about whether you want to live out your years in the UK or depart for the sun. Or perhaps there are lots of things that you want to change in your life and whilst on one hand you believe totally in yourself, on the other hand there’s a voice telling you that you just don’t.

These are all examples of inner conflict that we all have and when we experience this type of conflict we’re prevented from taking the action that we need to or achieving the outcomes that we truly desire. Parts challenges fiddle with our mojo and with our congruency – and congruency is essential to be able to make changes and stick to them. The conflict presented can have a really detrimental effect upon your energy levels too. NLP Neuro Linguistic Programming has a very effective intervention to deal parts issues, called Parts Integration – and in my experience it’s incredibly powerful.

Many of my clients consult me to lose weight or stop smoking. Before I undertake any challenge specific work with them, I’ll always perform a Parts Integration as you can bet your last pound that they have some inner conflict. A smoker, for instance, may feel “Part of me really wants to be a non-smoker, part of me enjoys smoking and doesn’t”. Or someone overweight may feel “Part of me really wants to reach my ideal weight, part of me doesn’t believe that I can”. So if a client has an inner conflict about what they’re asking me to help them achieve, how effective do you think my work will be? We need to remove conflict barriers before we get down to the nitty gritty!

Parts Integration works on the premise that once upon a time that conflict wasn’t there; once upon a time, those parts made up a whole. Significant emotional events, experiences and beliefs have caused the fragmentation. However, both parts will share the highest positive intention – they just go about getting there in very different ways. Using cunning linguistics, I question my clients about the purpose of each part to find the highest positive intention. Once at a both conscious and unconscious level the client has the awareness that the parts share this highest intention, integration is possible, conflict is dissolved and congruency is restored.

Here’s an analogy that may paint a simple picture for you. ABC Limited is a successful business, then the recession hits. Mr Scrooge, the Financial Director immediately says “Whoa, let’s baton down the hatches and spend no more money. Let’s cut our budgets in every department.” Mr Branson, the Sales Director, says “Hell no! Let’s invest in getting our people to be able to perform optimally. Let’s develop a strategic marketing plan to get the brand out there successfully.” Both Directors have a very different idea as to the way forward – however ultimately, their highest positive intention is the same – to ensure that the company survives during what they perceive as potentially trying times. Make sense? And parts are just the same!

If you’re experiencing inner conflict in any area of your world which is preventing you from moving forward and living life to the full, whether personally or professionally, then Parts Integration may well be the solution that you’re seeking. Imagine how empowering it will be to feel total inner harmony, to have all of your inner resources focused on achieving what you want, leaving doubts and turbulence behind – awesome, eh? And it’s easy!

Parts Integration needs to be undertaken by a competent Practitioner, however you can still give some thought to your own parts challenges. When you’ve identified a conflict, sit back and drill down into what exactly each part is wanting. Ask yourself what the purpose of each part is and what does its stance get for it. With careful consideration, you’ll discover that both parts do in fact have the same high level positive intention – and that many of the reasons for existence of one part can be offfset or complemented by the other. This thought process in itself may well bring you a greater level of congruency than that which you currently have.

I Don’t Have All The Answers

As a Therapist and NLP Trainer, I empower my clients to find answers; I assist them to find focus and make changes – overcoming fears and limiting beliefs and going on to achieve their goals. So when I’m unable to find answers in my own world from time to time, people think that’s kind of strange …

a walk by the river and brown dog's just out for the count!

Many people see me as a panacea; a knower of all things. And – where my clients are concerned – there’s a huge element of truth in this assumption because I’m able to take an objective view of their situation and I can very easily understand their challenges and circumstances and identify options and routes for change which had previously evaded them.

However, when it comes down to basics, I’m just another human being living a life which presents its own set of challenges on a daily basis. Most of these challenges are easy to overcome because of my positive mindset and my in-depth knowledge of not only the NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) tools of my trade, but myself too.

Sometimes, though, hurdles appear which aren’t so easy for me to jump alone – and I suspect the majority of Therapists, Trainers and Coaches would agree if they were honest. Professionals working in this industry can veer towards an almost elitist stance – refusing to admit that they too have chinks in their armour. Does it make them lesser people if they admit their foibles and frustrations? Not in my opinion, no – it makes them authentic. And authenticity goes a long way.

I’m currently experiencing one of those hurdles and at the time of writing this article, I’m really unsure as to which way I should approach the obstacle to jump over it without falling or kicking it down. The cause of the obstacle and the rather tenuous situation in which it’s left me is out of my own control which adds to my frustration and disappointment – as does the fact that I just simply hadn’t anticipated it. There’s a lesson in there for me somewhere! I have a number of options and I’ve weighed up the pros and cons continuously for a couple of days, together with the impact of whichever action I opt for upon those around me. And still I’m running in ever increasing circles around the obstacle as opposed to flying over it.

What advice would I give to someone else in my position? Operating from a position of integrity would be the key ingredient here; ensuring that I’m fully armed with knowledge of the outcomes from whichever course I take; and importantly, feeling totally congruent on every level with whatever path I choose to take. Of course, these are all intangibles to a great extent.

So, I’m simply going to revert to type for the time being; that means withdrawing from the world in general and doing lots of soul searching. The “world in general” doesn’t include Odhin, my Rhodesian Ridgeback and trusted friend, also affectionately known as Brown Dog – because he’s a dog and he’s brown. He’s usually my first port of call in times like this and it’s a win-win situation for us both as he’s a sucker for a lengthy walk beside a river in the countryside; it gives him a great excuse to doss on the sofa for hours afterwards.

However, what I am sure of is that by calming my conscious mind of the constant inner monologue for a while and seeking solace with some meditation in a beautiful space, I’ll emerge the other side knowing on a deep level what I need to do; and I’ll do it – full throttle. And then I’ll bounce back, full of energy, ready to take on the world again.

Life’s all about knowing yourself and understanding the inner resources which you have to call upon when you need them. And sometimes whilst you can speak with those nearest and dearest to you to seek their opinions – and indeed I’m very fortunate to have a couple of very close friends and trusted confidantes – you actually need to seek your own answers from within.

Listen … and you’ll hear them.

Losing Weight With The Hypno Mind Band

This week I’ve been bombarded with enquiries about losing weight with Hypnosis, specifically – in the main – the Gastric Band or Hypno Mind Band technique. I guess the sunshine has got people thinking about how great you will feel when you look really hot and confident in this year’s summer gear …

slim down for summer with the hypno gastric band technique

I wrote an article about weight reduction with Hypnosis and NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) earlier in the year, however I kept it generic and didn’t mention the Hypno Mind Band technique, so for those of you who are interested in hearing a little more about this very effective way of losing weight, read on!

Let’s look first of all the medical process of gastric band work – the surgical type. You can expect to pay a medical surgeon anything between £5,000 – £8,000 and the process involves invasive surgery placing a band around the top region of the stomach. This band creates a small pouch that can hold around half a cup of food as opposed to the usual six cups or so which the average stomach holds. When the pouch is full, it sends a message to the brain that the entire stomach is full. This means that the patient is hungry less often, feels fuller more quickly, eats smaller portions and therefore loses weight over time. Research shows that over 80% of patients will experience symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, reflux or regurgitation of food, slipped band, obstruction, constipation, diarrhoea and difficulty swallowing.

As with every type of intervention, there will be clients for whom this technique is suitable; a last resort, even. However, if you’re looking for something that costs less than a tenth of the lower end of the price bracket and which yields great results without undergoing surgery and potentially risking any of these unpleasant side effects, then you might consider it a good idea to experience the Hypno Mind Band technique instead!

There are lots of success stories about hypnotic gastric band techniques, with success reported at around 80%. The process is designed to create a different relationship with food for the client and encourages them to eat healthier food in smaller portions. Whilst under Hypnosis, the client experiences in their mind the process of having a gastric band fitted – and because suggestions are embedded deeply into the unconscious part of the mind, the process is incredibly effective.

The Hypno Mind Band technique which I use – there are a few variations around – takes place over 5 or 6 sessions, usually a week or a fortnight apart depending on an individual client’s progress. The program tackles not only the client’s eating habits, but also any limiting beliefs they may have around their ability to lose weight and be healthy and also deals with any underlying emotional challenges which may have contributed to weight gain in the first place.

As with standard nutritional programs, the client is asked to maintain a food diary during the course of treatment and after session 3 of the programme, they are required to follow an eating program similar to that which they’d follow had they had the actual surgery.

Doesn’t that sound a far more palatable solution than actually undergoing surgery?

If you’d like to understand a little more about Hypnosis, you might want to take a look at a couple of previous blog posts I’ve written on the subject: The Beginner’s Guide to Understanding Hypnosis and Hypnosis – Debunking The Myths. Do remember, however, that Hypnosis is not a magic wand; it’s an incredibly powerful tool to assist you in achieving the results you desire in any part of your life, however it takes some commitment from you too!

Obesity is a growing problem; over eating and not exercising will damage your health – it’s not rocket science – and once you’re on that path, it can be a slippery slope. If you find yourself beginning to venture down that road, what needs to happen for you to take action? Type 2 Diabetes to strike? Risk of heart disease? Classification as morbidly obese? Remember that the choice is yours and there’s no time like the present to make the choice to begin to lead a healthy lifestyle right now. If you’re more than a couple of stones overweight, the Hypno Mind Band technique may well be the perfect starting point for you if you want to make a commitment to yourself to start creating a difference!

If you’d like to know more about the Hypno Mind Band technique or other forms of reaching your ideal weight with Hypnosis and NLP then why not call me on +44 (0) 7932 060360 for a friendly and confidential chat or email me – I’d love to help you reach the sleek and slender image of yourself which I suspect you could bring to mind really easily, couldn’t you?
